Travel Abroad Programs
Coming Program: Summer 2010 in China and Japan with Prof. Michael Stinson:
For the first time, Santa Barbara City College will offer a 4-week summer program in Shanghai, China, and Tokyo, Japan. On this program you will be introduced to Asian film and culture including the work of major Asian directors and you will learn the fundamentals of directing for the camera.
The first three weeks you will be in Shanghai, which is the birthplace of Chinese cinema and continues to be a center of the Chinese film industry. You will visit Shanghai Film Center and the Shanghai Film Archive. In addition, the 15th annual Shanghai International Film Festival is slated to take place during your stay in China. During the final week of the program, you will be in Tokyo where you will visit the National Film Center at the Museum of Modern Art. This center offers an extensive archive of Japanese and Asian film. The 33rd Pia Film Festival is scheduled during the time you are in Japan.
Your assignments outside the classroom will be numerous and diverse and conducted on location often at night. You will script, rehearse and film your projects on the streets and exotic quarters of Tokyo and Shanghai.

Past Program: Spring 2009 in Rome and Paris with Prof. Michael Stinson:
The Department of Film and Television offered a full-semester international study program in Europe in spring of 2009. The program was set in Rome and Paris and was directed by Professor Michael Stinson (email@example.com). Classes included FS120: Great Directors, FilmPro185: Directing for the Camera, History 104, and Art 104. Students studied the great directors of Italy and France and shot their own short films on the streets of Rome and Paris with an option to attend the Cannes Film Festival at program's end.
